Most saddles are filled or ‘flocked’ with a form of wool- normally Jacobs, long white or synthetic. Over time, all types of flocking moves around and can form lumps, particularly if there are different types of flock present. These lumps can cause pressure points under the saddle, which can lead to the horse being uncomfortable and lead to issues from soreness to behavioural problems. Most of the time, any hollow areas or lumps can be adjusted on site during a saddle service. If a saddle’s flocking is too old or lumpy to adjust on site, we can take it away for a full reflock. This service includes-
· Dropping the panels
· Checking the tree’s soundness
· Stripping the panels and refilling them with fresh flocking
· Reattaching the panels.
· Fitting the reflocked saddle
· Free check after 20 hours/6 weeks of use.
We aim to do this service as quickly as possible so the saddle is out of use for the minimal amount of time. We also have a selection of hire saddles available, if you wish to still ride while your saddle is being reflocked.
